Edward Weston (1886-1958) was one of the most important American photographers of the 20th century and a foundational figure in modernist photography, ranking among the first tier of masters in photographic history. Through precise imagery, simple compositions, natural light, and abstract forms, he transformed the human body, shells, plants, rocks, and everyday objects into sculptural photographic forms.

The Nude series is an important part of Weston’s practice. Through the curves, textures, light, shadow, and geometric structures of the human body, he minimized personal identity and narrative, presenting the body as a pure visual form. The series reflects his pursuit of the inherent qualities of photography and had a lasting influence on modernist and nude photography in the 20th century.
