George Kanzee（1870-1954）, active around the early 20th century in San Francisco, was a photographer and professional image producer who also operated his own art studio. San Francisco, as one of the main centers of early Chinese immigration, provided him with opportunities to observe and document Chinese life. His photographs captured traditional customs, daily scenes, and festive activities of the Chinese community. These works reflected both his personal interests and the contemporary market demand for exotic subjects, giving them significant social and cultural value.

What set Kanzee apart was his dual role as both photographer and professional image producer and distributor. He actively acquired negatives from traveling photographers around the world, printed them as photographs and postcards, and distributed them across the United States and abroad. Today, Kanzee’s photographs and published works are valued for their documentation of Chinese immigrant life and cross-cultural exchange.
