李·弗里德兰德（Lee Friedlander，1934-）是20世纪美国摄影史上最重要的摄影家之一，在世界摄影史上属于第一梯队大师级别。他与 Garry Winogrand、Diane Arbus 等共同推动了1960-70年代美国街头摄影的发展，以复杂构图、反射、阴影、框中框和日常城市景观著称。

Lee Friedlander (1934-) is one of the most important American photographers of the 20th century and ranks among the first tier of masters in photographic history. Alongside Garry Winogrand and Diane Arbus, he helped shape American street photography in the 1960s and 1970s. He is known for complex compositions, reflections, shadows, framing devices, and everyday urban scenes.

Maria, 1987 and Maria, London, 1964 represent different stages of Friedlander’s portrait and personal photographic practice. Through figures, reflections, windows, shadows, and the photographer’s own viewpoint, he moved beyond conventional portraiture and created complex relationships between people and their surroundings. The 1964 London photograph reflects his early interest in street and travel photography, while the 1987 Maria demonstrates the freer and more layered compositional language of his mature period.

Friedlander’s work is held by major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
