Man Ray (1890-1976) was one of the most important American artists and photographers of the 20th century and a leading figure of Dada and Surrealism. He ranks among the first tier of masters in photographic history. Known for experimental darkroom techniques, solarization, Rayographs, and avant-garde portraiture, he had a lasting influence on modern photography, fashion photography, and conceptual art.

Luis Buñuel, 1929 is an important early portrait from Man Ray’s involvement with the Parisian Surrealist circle. The subject is Luis Buñuel, the influential Spanish filmmaker.
