Pierre Dieulefils (1862-1937) was a French photographer, publisher, and postcard producer, best known for his work in French Indochina. Born in France, he initially served in the military and traveled to Indochina with the French army in the 1880s. After completing his service, he settled in Hanoi, where he established a photographic studio, focusing on capturing urban scenes, landscapes, and portraits of various ethnic groups.

皮埃尔·迪勒菲斯（Pierre Dieulefils，1862-1937）是法国摄影师、出版商和明信片制作者，以其在印度支那的摄影作品而闻名。他出生于法国，最初在军队服役，19世纪80年代随部队前往法属印度支那。服役结束后，他定居于河内，并开设摄影工作室，专注于拍摄当地的城市风貌、自然景观以及各族群的肖像。

Dieulefils’s artistic achievements lie in his extensive visual documentation of colonial-era Southeast Asia. He initially worked with albumen prints and, in the early 20th century, shifted toward postcard publishing, producing thousands of images that depicted the people, customs, and environments of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. His works not only carried commercial value but also became vital historical records for studying colonial society, traditional costumes, urban development, and cultural exchange.  

Of particular note are his photographs of the Angkor monuments and portraits of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities, which reveal a meticulous sense of observation and documentary precision. Dieulefils’s postcards circulated widely across Europe, offering Western audiences a vivid glimpse of the Far East. Today, his work is regarded as an invaluable archive for understanding the history and culture of French Indochina at the turn of the 20th century, while also being appreciated for its distinct artistic merit by collectors and scholars alike.
