W. A. B. Leach（William Arthur Blackburn Leach 1872-1962） was born in the city of Norwich, England, where he attended a local grammar school before becoming an apprentice carpenter and engineer. After qualifying in 1902, he went to China and obtained a position in the Public Works Department of the Shanghai Municipal Council. He spent his professional career in Shanghai until leaving the city in 1926. During his time there, he also volunteered at a Christian mission school, helping to support local homeless children.  


威·亚·布·里（William Arthur Blackburn Leach 1872-1962）出生在英国城市Norwich，在那里他就读于当地的一所文法学校，后来成为一名学徒木匠和工程师。 1902年获得资格后，他去了中国，在上海市议会公共工程部获得职位。他在上海度过了他二十四年的职业生涯，直到1926年离开中国上海。在上海期间，他在一所基督教会学校做义工帮助支持当地流浪儿童。 

He seized every opportunity to travel across different regions of China, taking thousands of photographs. On his journeys, he also collected extensively—particularly wood carvings, bronzes, traditional robes, paintings, and porcelain—and he had a special fondness for silverware. During his years in China, he returned to Britain at least four times, each time making a round-the-world trip, visiting Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Egypt and the Holy Land, the Far East, Canada, and the United States. 

After returning permanently to Britain, he settled in Northampton, where he served as a lay preacher and local councillor. He gave many lectures about China and the numerous other countries he had visited. He passed away in 1962.
